About PlantedShack
PlantedShack is an independent site about houseplants and the gardens just outside the door. We write for people who want a plant to do well and want to know why a piece of advice works, not just that someone said it.
A fresh start on an old address
This address has been around since 2019. It changed hands in 2026, and we did not keep a single page from before. Every guide here was researched and written from scratch, traced back to primary sources and checked by a second person before it went live.
Starting over was slower than tidying up old posts. It was also the only way to stand behind every sentence on the site.
Who is behind it
PlantedShack is privately and independently owned. A small team plans, researches, writes and checks the guides. We publish under the PlantedShack name rather than individual bylines, because no guide here is the work of one person: each one passes through a researcher, a writer and a separate checker before you see it.
We do not claim credentials we do not have. When a question needs a specialist, such as a sick pet, a pesticide decision or a plant diagnosis, we say so and point you to the right kind of help.
What we promise
- Every fact has a source we actually read. Numbers, study results and safety points come from universities, extension services, government agencies and published research, never from another blog repeating them.
- Every guide is checked twice. One person writes it, another checks every claim and redoes every calculation before it is published.
- We say what we do not know. Where the evidence is thin or experts disagree, the guide says so.
- No one pays for a place in a guide. We take no payment to mention a plant, product or shop, and we will label it clearly if that ever changes.
- Mistakes get fixed in the open. Corrections are made on the page and listed in our corrections log.
